Covers Only, Not Videos
Worth stating plainly, because most tools carrying the word TikTok in their name do something else: this page retrieves the still cover image and nothing more. No video is downloaded, nothing is re-hosted, and no watermark is removed from anything.
The lookup goes through TikTok's own public oEmbed endpoint — the same one any site uses when it embeds a TikTok post. The reply contains the cover address, which is what appears above.
Why You Need the Whole Link
Unlike YouTube, a TikTok cover cannot be derived from the video ID alone. The lookup requires the complete address, including the username: something in the shape of tiktok.com/@username/video/1234567890123456789.
Short vm.tiktok.com links redirect to that full address; open one in a browser first and copy what the address bar settles on. On mobile, the Share → Copy link option gives you a usable address directly.
Save It Now, Not Later
TikTok image addresses carry a signature and an expiry timestamp. That means the link you copy is valid for a limited window rather than permanently — a detail that catches people out when they save the address instead of the image.

What the Cover Is Good For
Vertical covers are studied the same way horizontal ones are: collect the covers of the posts performing well in your niche, look at them together at feed size, and the shared patterns become obvious — where faces sit, how much text survives, which colours repeat.
